Continuing its aggressive secondary exit cycle across mature Indian tech assets, global investment firm Alpha Wave has offloaded more than 3.54 Crore equity shares of point-of-sale and merchant commerce leader Pine Labs via a series of block transactions on the National Stock Exchange.
According to exchange filing data, the block deal was executed at an average price of ₹155.10 per share, representing a modest 4.4% discount to Pine Labs' previous day closing price. The sale netted approximately ₹550 Crore for Alpha Wave Ventures II, leaving the institutional backer with a residual stake of just 4.9 Lakh shares.
Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) demonstrated deep appetite for the liquidity event. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance emerged as the largest buyer, absorbing over 1 Crore shares. Global investment banks Goldman Sachs and Societe Generale picked up 41.6 Lakh and 45.3 Lakh shares respectively, while domestic mutual funds Edelweiss and JM Financial also expanded their equity positions.
The secondary sale comes on the heels of a broader realization spree by Alpha Wave, which recently liquidated a ₹1,857 Crore holding in eyewear retailer Lenskart, an entire ₹323 Crore stake in MSME lender Aye Finance, and a ₹665 Crore position in logistics unicorn Delhivery.
Pine Labs' operational turnaround has significantly buttressed investor confidence. Following the expiration of its post-listing lock-in window in May, the fintech reported a fourfold jump in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹19.6 Crore, while quarterly operating revenue rose 20% to ₹736.9 Crore. Full-year FY26 results saw the merchant platform swing to a net profit of ₹113 Crore, compared to a net loss of ₹145 Crore in FY25.
Under CEO Amrish Rau, Pine Labs is also accelerating international expansion—which now accounts for 15% of top-line sales across 20 countries—while debuting the Pine Labs Payment Protocol (P3P) to enable autonomous AI agent-directed transactions over the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
