Simple Energy Launches Wave Family Escooter at ₹1.1 Lakh to Challenge Ola and Ather
Key Editorial Takeaways
  • Introductory price starting at ₹1.10 Lakh (ex-showroom) across three core trims: Simple Wave S, Wave, and Wave+.
  • Flagship Wave+ model offers a certified Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of 243 km from a 5 kWh lithium battery pack.
  • Targeting 10,000 monthly unit sales by March 2027 by expanding retail presence from 75 stores to nationwide metro coverage.
  • Comes directly after Ola Electric launched its Bharat Cell LFP scooter (S1Z) and Ather introduced its family commuter (Konarc).

Bengaluru-headquartered electric two-wheeler OEM Simple Energy has officially entered the family commuter segment with the rollout of the Simple Wave, priced at an introductory starting tag of ₹1.10 Lakh (ex-showroom).

The Simple Wave family lineup spans six configurations across three model trims: the Wave S, Wave, and Wave+. The top-tier Wave+ features a class-leading 5 kWh battery pack, generating an IDC-certified range of 243 km and a top speed of 90 kmph via a 6.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 179 Nm of wheel torque.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in late September 2026, supported by portable smart chargers capable of taking the battery from 0% to 80% charge in approximately two hours and 15 minutes on standard home connections.

Co-founded by Suhas Rajkumar and Shreshth Mishra, Simple Energy is scaling quickly after closing a ₹250 Crore equity and debt round in June. The capital infusion is primarily funding manufacturing capacity expansion at its Hosur assembly plant, where the company plans to increase monthly run rates from 1,500 units currently to over 10,000 units by March 2027.

The launch intensifies what has become a fiercely contested mass-market EV showdown. Just last week, market incumbent Ola Electric debuted its S1Z series featuring localized 46-series LFP Bharat Cell batteries at ₹79,999, while Ather Energy rolled out its Konarc family platform starting at ₹99,999.

Despite monthly registration contractions caused by evolving subsidy structures under the EMPS scheme, year-over-year electric two-wheeler adoption remains robust, with Vahan registry data reflecting a 64% expansion to 1.72 Lakh units registered nationwide in August.
